Raggedy Man

I know I haven't posted in the longest time but anyway I'm back!!! Are you guys happy to see me?

Hi, people of the internet universe! How have you all been? A very Merry Christmas to you all, and a Happy New Year! Hope you are all having splendid holidays with you and your families.

Yes, I know, I've been away for a while again. I've been rather drained from inspiring stuff that I haven't gotten around to posting any artwork for you! But not to worry, cause I'm back, and will definitely be posting again. *three cheers for me!*

Anyway, as you can tell by today's artwork, I've seen the Doctor Who 2013 Christmas special, The Time of the Doctor. Good grief. I pretty much cried the entire planet Neptune. I don't think I'll ever let go of Eleven. His personality was my favorite and he taught me to appreciate absolutely every life form on this earth. He taught me that bow ties and fezzes are that cool. He is still trying to convince me to try fish fingers and custard. Thank you, Matt Smith. You were one amazing Doctor. Geronimo!

What else have I been up to?

OH YEAH.

If you guys follow me on twitter and instagram, you probably know my biggest obsession as of the moment. *grand sound effects please* Disney's Frozen! It's no joke that I'm obsessed with the film cause I saw it three times in the cinema. [Disney has earned a lot from my family. Haha!] I'm in complete love with the music, and I've been drawing a lot of Anna and Elsa too! Expect some Frozen fanart posts coming up!

So yeah, that's it for now, as I am still recovering from the Doctor Who special. See ya later, fellas!

Dearest Jessie

Jessie's birthday was in fact yesterday but oh well this is my belated birthday post for her
Hi Jessie!

I just wanted to make this post all about her because she has been an amazing friend, and probably my closest friend from the blogging world. I still remember when she emailed me asking for blog advice earlier this year and from there, we have not stopped emailing each other since. She also requested that I draw her for her blog, and I have been putting it off because of insane school work and other activities. I decided that that drawing would be my birthday gift to her instead.

So anyway, Jessie, if you're reading this:

HAPPY HAPPY 15TH BIRTHDAY! I wish you the very very very best and more birthdays to come! I look forward to the day we meet in person and tour each others' countries together. (I hope this means we can be best friends now? Yihee!) I hope you had a great day! You're one awesome buddy! Love you!

------------

You know what would be a great birthday gift for Jessie? If you all visit her blog, Painting the Ocean and give it a follow! She is the sweetest girl ever and she really deserves it!

25 Facts About Me: The First Vlog!

Because this blog has been on another really long nap, I'm making up for all the posts that could have been with Spaceship to Infinity's first ever vlog!

I've been thinking about making videos for a while now and I've always been inspired by all the Youtubers out there, except, I've always felt awkward talking to a camera. (Not that I don't love the camera, I love cameras!)

I went through a really long entire process with deciding what video would be a good "first video," if you guys get what I'm saying. I decided to stick with the 25 Facts About Me because I wanted to let you guys know me more!

But anyway, I won't spoil much of the video. Just click play, and watch me ramble with extreme awkwardness! Haha!

In all seriousness, if you guys have any suggestions for videos for me to do, please do comment below! I'd love to hear all your input! Also, don't forget to subscribe to Spaceship to Infinity on Youtube! See you guys over at the youtube universe!

Come support Sew Easy!

Hi guys! As some of you have seen on my Instagram, I've been taking sewing classes this year at Sew Easy. I've been taking the classes since July and I have been having so much fun! I've made bags, shorts, pajama pants, and I'm currently making a shirt!

I'd like to invite you all to join us at the Cuenca Bazaar this November 23-24! We'll be selling cool things like headbands and bags, all done by the Sew Easy students themselves. I'll be chilling by the booth, so do come say hi! Hope to see you there!

30/2

Me at 2 years old ha ha ha
That photo basically shows the beginning of my artistic career. Haha! I remember my mom would provide me with a lot of paper, paint, crayons, markers, and all those fun stuff growing up. It's great to see how all that would eventually build up my passion for art.

I'll be turning 15 in 2 days. (That's halfway to 30, whut...)
Am I ready for this?!

Tell you what, I am just extremely thankful for everything that has been happening in my life for the past year. I'm so thankful for the new friends I've made, the new experiences I've had, and most of all, the amount of love you all have been showing for my art. It really warms my heart to see that people appreciate the little doodles I create.

I'm pretty excited to see what 15 has in store for me, even though I'm quite scared. I wonder what new experiences I'll have? What places would I visit? Who would I meet? I'm excited to fill this new chapter with lots of great stories, pretty pictures, and a whole lot more.

Who knows what 15's going to bring? Who knows, who knows?

Day 30: Part Of Your World

A character you will love and remember for the rest of your life:
Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

We have finally reached the end of the 30 Day Character Challenge. I decided to end this wonderful month with the Disney princess I was named after, Ariel. Ariel will always be my favorite Disney princess, with her being a mermaid and loving to collect things. I will always love The Little Mermaid and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Day 29: Eliza

A character that makes you flashback into your childhood:
Eliza Thornberry (The Wild Thornberrys)

Ah, those days when television actually had the best cartoons ever. The Wild Thornberrys was one of them. I remember waking up early on the weekends, running over to my cousin's house to watch these cartoons together. Eliza was one of my favorite characters growing up. I loved that she could talk to animals and that she lived in a bus with her family and a pet monkey. How awesome would that be?!

September 29, 2013

Day 28: I Will Have Order!

A character you hate:
Dolores Umbridge (Harry Potter)

Oh goodness, the amount of hate I have for Dolores Umbridge. Plus, the nerve she has for treating the students of Hogwarts makes me want to boil her in hot oil! She is such a hypocrite. I will say no more. I will say no more.

Day 27: Am I On The Naughty List?

An overrated character:
Jack Frost (Rise of the Guardians)

Please don't get me wrong, I LOVE Jack to bits! I just think that too many people watch the film just for this guy. (But who wouldn't, I mean, he's too good looking for an animated character.....okay I should stop now) In all seriousness, however, I think he has been too overrated. What about the other Guardians? I mean they're cool too!

Day 26: The Mayor's Daughter

An underrated character:
Madge Undersee (The Hunger Games)

Madge is one of my favorite characters in The Hunger Games trilogy. I was really sad when I found out she had been written out of the movie. I mean, I like the friendship between Gale and Katniss, but it was really refreshing to see Katniss actually socialize with a girl her age. Plus, she was a real friend to Katniss during the times she really needed help.

September 28, 2013

Day 25: You Really Are A Bad Guy

A character who makes you cry when they cry
Vanellope Von Schweetz (Wreck-It-Ralph)

I was watching Wreck-It-Ralph the other day and my heart clenched during the scene Ralph decided to destroy the race car they both worked on. All Vanellope wanted was a chance to actually be the racer she is, and because of Ralph thinking only of himself during that moment, she couldn't. My heart broke into pieces when she said, "You really are a bad guy!"

September 24, 2013

Day 24: Chichay

Day 24: The character with the best laugh
Chichay (Got To Believe)

Okay, for those of you who aren't from the Philippines, Chichay is the lead female character from the currently airing TV drama, Got To Believe. (It's really weird trying to explain this in English to make it understandable for the rest of you from the other side of the world)

Anyway, Chichay is just the most energetic tv character ever. She's just a ball of energy that talks at a rate of insert-a-huge-amount-here of words per minute. Such a chatterbox. She's just too entertaining and too funny, that when she laughs, you'll definitely be forced to laugh along with her.

Days 17 - 23: Catching Up Part 2

Part 2 of the Catching Up drawing haul! *yipee di doo daaaa*

Day 17: The most awful, mean, evil character you know // Hannibal Lecter is a freaking snake who likes to bite at innocent people who have done him no harm. Ugh. I want to feed him to the cannibals so he can get a taste of his own medicine.

Day 18: An animal character you like // Oh what I would give to have a pet like Naga. I've always wanted a big pet dog, a big fluffy one. However, my dad doesn't seem to share this liking in them. Nevertheless, Naga will always be one of my favorite pets in the Korra world. Who doesn't want a big polar bear dog?!

Day 19: A sci-fi character you like // Originally, I was supposed to go all Doctor Who on this, but then I thought, "Wait a second, what really got me into sci-fi in the first place?!" The answer to that is very simple my friends: Star Wars. I remember watching the original trilogy with my dad and pointing out how much I liked R2-D2. I even remember having walkie talkies of R2 and C-3PO! Oh the good old days!

Day 20: A fantasy character you like // I remember going through a phase where I was obsessed with fairies. Practically obsessed. I love Tinkerbell from Peter Pan. I also like the separate universe Disney has made for her and the rest of the fairies! I loved meeting her back in 2009 at Disney World! Definitely one of my most beloved fantasy characters.

Day 21: A paranormal character you like // I'm not big on horror stuff, but my favorite paranormal characters (if you can consider them paranormal) are without a doubt the Weeping Angels. Nothing gets creepier than statues ready to attack you the second you blink. Oh the joy.

Day 22: The best singer // I had a rather difficult time with this one, but I decided to go with Elphaba from Wicked. Wicked is one of my absolute favorite broadway musicals and I was really blessed to get to watch it last year in Singapore! I am soooo blessed yet again because we'll be watching it a second time next year when the production comes to Manila! So excited!

Day 23: The best dancer // I couldn't take this drawing seriously cause the first thing that came to my mind was Troy Bolton dancing on the golf course in High School Musical 2. Thus, a lame doodle. I literally couldn't stop laughing every time this image came to mind.

Days 11-16: Catching Up Part 1

Part 1 of my extreme drawing haul! I'm so sorry the challenge took a really really really long break. It's just been really busy for me lately that I haven't had the time to open up Photoshop and actually do a drawing! I decided to catch up with some traditional drawings instead. It was great making actual drawings again on paper, as I've only been able to make sketches lately. Anyway, let's get to the characters!

Day 11: A character who taught you something about love // I decided to draw Rosalind from The Penderwicks series. I haven't met a lot of people who have read the books, but I highly recommend them! I chose Rosalind for this day because there's something really special about the love of an older sister. Being an older sister or "ate" (what we call our older sisters here in the Philippines) myself, I related to her character so much. To all the older sisters out there, let us join hands and stand strong because nothing beats our love.

Day 12: A character with the best quotes // Who else has the best quotes other than Dumbledore himself? An inspiring one, that old man. I love absolutely everything he says. I don't have to explain even furthur.

Day 13: A boring character // As much as I love tales of princesses and fairies, Snow White bored me to death. All she did was clean the dwarves' house, eat the poisonous apple, and wait for the prince to kiss her. Sorry, but we need more of the Mulan type of princess nowadays! Girl power!

Day 14: A character you wished was never introduced // There are days when I wish MJ Watson was out of the picture and that Gwen Watson would forever stay in Peter Parker's life. Please don't think of me as a super Spiderman nerd because I'm really not. My judgement is only based on the films.

Day 15: The smartest character // Sherlock freaking Holmes. I just want to take his brain and study how he comes up with his deductions. He's just too intelligent. (Plus he plays the violin which gives him more points in the intelligence category!)

Day 16: The dumbest character // Spongebob Squarepants was pretty much my childhood. I still wonder what a Krabby Patty tastes like until now, or how they can simply have bonfires in Bikini Bottom. But guys, you have to admit that Patrick is possibly the most stupid cartoon character in the history of the cartoons of our generation. Haha!

A Case of a Blank Page

Oh goodness, this blog has took a really long nap.

I know I haven't been posting drawings for my 30 Day Challenge, but do not fret for I have indeed been catching up! It's just been a really busy week for me with high school things and all that. I'm going to be scanning my drawings real soon since I have been doing the rest traditionally. Expect an extreme haul of drawings later on!

Anyway, as most of you many know, I'm a complete sucker for movie scores and instrumentals. I came across this track the other day and completely fell in love. It's so happy and upbeat and a great track to draw to. Thought I'd share it with the rest of you!

September 11, 2013

Day 10: For Narnia

A character who taught you about real life:
Aslan (The Chronicles of Narnia)

Pretty much rushed this since this was for the 10th, but I had to get well rested for a certain exam today. Anyway, back to the topic. Aslan is one of the most influential characters in my life. I love how he teaches us to relish our childhood, yet to embrace growing up as well.

I'm actually pleased with this sketchy look. I had to do this real quick cause I still have today's drawing to prettify! (And hooray for a successful lion face!)

September 9, 2013

Day 9: Clary

A character who would be your best friend if they were real:
Clary Fray (The Mortal Instruments)

I was extremely pleased when I found out Clary and I shared quite common traits. I was incredibly pleased when I found out she was also artistic and vertically challenged. We'd definitely get along if she was a real person!

September 8, 2013

Day 8: Pipsqueak

The funniest character:
Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist)

I just recently started watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and oh goodness, I think I'm going to start watching more anime now. Anyway, back to the topic. Edward Elric is just too funny. I was thinking of drawing Major Armstrong, but the thought of Ed's outbursts when people make fun of his height are my favorite moments of his. (I can totally relate being the vertically challenged person I am!)

Day 7: Latino Santa's Elf

The hottest character:
Leo Valdez (The Heroes of Olympus)

I wasn't able to work on this yesterday because I just came back from a long trip from Manila. But anyway, here is Day 7's character: Leo Valdez!

I hope you guys get what I did here with Leo being the son of Hephaestus. Leo is one of my absolute favorite characters from the Heroes of Olympus! He's just too funny and too entertaining. I love his fun personality and energy throughout the story and I can't wait to see more of him in House of Hades!

September 6, 2013

Day 6: Tree Trunks

The most annoying character:
Tree Trunks (Adventure Time)

Apologies for the lamest drawing ever, but I couldn't help it. Sorry but Tree Trunks from Adventure Time just annoys me too much. Bleh. Sorry Tree Trunks, but I don't want to hear about your crystal apple. Go mind your own old elephant business.

September 5, 2013

Day 5: The Gaang

Day 5: A group of characters who are most like you and your friends
Aang, Katara, Toph, and Sokka (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

I'd like to think that me and my friends are kinda like these guys. Each one of them is different, yet together, they make each other stronger! The Gaang is definitely one of my favorite TV friendships of all time.

I literally had to rush this artwork, but I'm really happy with my color choices! It was loads of fun illustrating them!

September 4, 2013

Day 4: Sweater Town

A character who acts like you:
Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls)

Like I said in a previous Gravity Falls post, Mabel Pines is my spirit animal. With her love for crafts and insanely colored sweaters, this girl is definitely me in cartoon form. Plus, she's very dedicated to her twin brother Dipper, as I am very dedicated to my little sister Kayla. We share a love for quirkiness and singing as well. ("Don't start unbelieeeeeving!") If I was transported into the cartoon world, I'd turn into Mabel.

September 3, 2013

Day 3: Mirror Mirror

A character who looks like you:
Magic Mirror (Snow White)

*ba dum tsss* Since I couldn't really find a character I like that looks like me, I told myself, "Hold up, the Magic Mirror pretty much looks like me!" Haha, oh I amuse myself. I'm pretty happy with how I did the mirror effects on the mirror glass as well! Hooray!

September 2, 2013

Day 2: Chihiro

A character from a previous favorite fandom:
Chihiro (Spirited Away)

I'm a biiiig fan of Studio Ghibli films, and Chihiro from Spirited Away is one of my favorite characters from their films! I love seeing how she grows up throughout the story and how she learns to stand up for herself. She goes from complaining about everything to accepting life the way it is. She learns to make solutions for the problems she has and learns to depend on herself rather than always depending on others.

Decided to draw her today because we Ghibli fans are saddened by the news that the great Hayao Miyazaki is retiring. I am definitely going to miss his amazing films. Such a legend! His films will surely be loved for generations to come!

September 1, 2013

Day 1: The Impossible Girl

A character from your current favorite fandom:
Clara Oswald (Doctor Who)

I think Clara is my favorite Doctor Who companion. I love how she's very strong and very dedicated to her family. I love how she doesn't let anyone trample over her, even the Doctor! She's very fierce, and I love that about her.  I can't wait to see more of her in the next season with the next Doctor!

Dear Harry

Thank you for all the moments where I've laughed and cried with you, Ron, and Hermione. Thank you for teaching me that there is always hope, even during the darkest times. Thank you for teaching me that there is bravery within everyone, and that friendship is the most valuable prize. Thank you for teaching me that love conquers all. Thank you for showing me that it is our choices, far more than our abilities, that show us who we truly are. Thank you for teaching me to never give up on something I really want. Thank you for showing me that doing the right thing may not be the easiest path, but it will be the best path.

Thank you and happy birthday, Harry.
Thank you to the Boy Who Lived.

Flight

Just another something I worked on using the iPad! It's Hiccup and Toothless flying over the skies! If you follow me on Twitter, you may know that I am extremely excited for the sequel that's coming out next year! You can watch the teaser trailer over here.

For those asking about iPad art apps, I use Sketchbook Pro, Paper by 53, Brushes, and Adobe Ideas. My stylus is a Jot Touch 4 by adonit. If you guys are interested in iPad art, I recommend grabbing a copy of Dani Jones' book, iPad for Artists. She makes great iPad art and has an awesome webcomic called My Sister The Freak. You can check her website out over here.

Disney Dudez

I was contemplating whether or not to post this, but whatever! This, my friends, is high class entertainment! Lianna showed this to me last night and now I'm listening to this nonstop. Being the Disnerd (Disney + Nerd. Hehe get it?) that I am, mashing up Disney songs with boyband songs made me go crazy! The My Girl/Kiss The Girl mash up was the absolute best thing ever! And also, don't you think that Dalton (the second guy who sings) rather looks like a human incarnation of Jack Frost? Teehee!

So what do guys think of the Disney Dudez? I don't know about you, but it got me inspired to draw the Disney princes this time! Might do some illustrations of them soon!

P.S. I may have fallen in love with the Cole aka the guy who plays Eric... *faints*

June 30, 2013

Monsters University

Yesterday, my good buddy, Nina and I had an impromptu movie date and watched Monsters University! You have no idea how excited I was for this movie. Monsters Inc. played a big part of my childhood. If you haven't seen MU yet, go watch it now! The movie was very entertaining. It was very colorful and full of jokes! It's a great watch with the family! Go watch now!

Now, about this little doodle of Mike Wazowski. My dad recently got me an iPad so I can create digital artworks on the go! I have been experimenting with it but this is the first 'real' doodle I've done. Still getting used to it, but I can't wait to create more artworks with it!

Peter & Gwen sketches

{I just have the most entertaining post titles, gosh. I deserve an award. *slow clap for me*}

Moving on, yesterday I watched The Amazing Spider-man last night out of boredom. Can I just say, I really really really love Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Peter Parker. He absolutely nailed the awkward teen part. Don't even get me started on when he goes into Spidey mode because it'll cause me to type in EXCESSIVE ALL-CAPS. I'M SERIOUS. I also loooooove Gwen! To be honest, I prefer her more than Mary Jane, but oh well. Emma Stone was fab, plus she and Andrew have this flawless chemistry. AHHHHH!

I did these sketches earlier today, and I'm really pleased with how their designs came out. {Especially Gwen's} This is the first time I've ever drawn them, and I think I'll be sketching them even more. They're such fun to draw!

P.S. I also got the movie score because I found out it was also scored by the same guy who did the music for Titanic. Hooray for movie scores!

June 12, 2013

Team Tardis

(Left to right: Eleven, Amy, Rory, River)

I know I haven't been posting any drawings here in a while, but never mind that! I really do miss blogging very dearly, and I am trying to remind myself to come up with new posts more often.

Anywho, here are some sketches that came from my personal journal. {Hence the lines} If you're an insane Whovian/Wholigan like me, you'll probably recognize them right away. Aw yeah, Team Tardis! So we've got an attempt of the Eleventh Doctor for the first sketch. I honestly laughed when I finished this. Matt Smith is pretty hard to capture. Then we have Amelia Pond or better known as Amy. I draw her quite a lot especially in her big red hoodie. Next we have Rory Williams, also known as The Last Centurion or Stupidface according to Amy. Rory's one of my favorite DW characters because man, insane character development I'm telling you! Lastly, we have the ever so fabulous River Song with her poofy hair. I find her sassy character so adorable and I think she is one of my potential candidates for a Halloween costume. {Yes, it's only June and I'm already planning my Halloween costume. I have been since the beginning of the year.... Shows how much I love costumes!}

So yeah, basically most of the things I've been drawing are all Doctor Who fan art because it was just announced that Matt Smith would be leaving the show soon. Cue the tears please! Eleven is my favorite doctor ever because he just appreciates every little thing he notices. Going to miss him so much!

So far, I only have 4 friends who actually watch the series...so if you do, LET US BE BEST FRIENDS. That is all for now.

S2I ad swap announcementz {Yep, with a Z}

I have been getting quite a handful of emails from those of you who would want to ad swap with me, and don't get me wrong, I love it! I'm more than willing to help you guys gain more readership.

However, I think I'm going to be very picky with those I want to ad swap with right now.

Most of you don't exactly fall into the same "blog category" as me, but if I like your blog and we somewhat have the same content, then good job! You might just land a spot over here! I think I'll most likely be doing that from now on.

Oh, and if ever you guys change your blog urls or something, please do tell me so there isn't any wasted space on my blog. Hehe. Thanks!

Also, I'm somewhat going to be resetting the ads over here, so a new group of people can get some blog exposure. Hooray for blog friends, yay! Shoot me an email at contact.spaceshiptoinfinity@yahoo.com if you want your blog button to be on Spaceship to Infinity!

Dear Mama

Happy Mother's day to the most amazing woman I know: my mom!

I know this is going to be really cliché, but I have the best mom ever. She was the one who taught me what I need to know. She was the one who accompanied me to my rehearsals every single day during A Christmas Carol. She's been my school teacher for the past 6 years. She has been my number one fan, and I can say that I am hers.

So Mama, if you're reading this, thank you for everything you've done for me and Kayla! Thank you for all your countless efforts to give us the best in life. Thank you for all you've done for the family. I may not be the best daughter in the world, but I sure got the best mom in the universe!

I love you, Mama! Happy Mother's Day! {Happy Mother's Day as well to all the moms out there!}

To Cobo

Dear Cobo,

I, Arielle Guevara, would like to present you with full membership to the Oldies Club...

Nah, just kidding! Happy happy birthday, Cobs! Welcome to chapter 14 of your life. Congratulations on that. *applause*

First off, thank you for being the most amazing buddy ever! I couldn't have asked for a better guy bestie to share my weird, sabaw moments with. Thank you for being very supportive of me, and you know I'll do the same for you. Thank you for making me laugh when I'm feeling down. I consider you as one of the siblings I've never had, and I'm really glad I met you back in Camp Shake, Rattle, and Roll.

Here's to more birthdays for you! God bless, Cobo! You're the best!

#Fishbump: Days 1 and 2

I'm back! Yes I am! Let us all rejoice for I have missed Spaceship to Infinity as much as you guys did!

Like I said in my previous post, I really miss blogging, and I disappoint myself every time laziness hits me. But anyway, here I am typing away as I write about the ultimate highlight of my summer: Marine Camp at Danjugan Island, Negros Occidental!

Originally, I was planning to go to CISV Mini Camp as usual. But after hearing about this, I was torn between the two. I then decided to go to Danjugan considering that it would be a new experience and I'd learn something different. (Plus, you'll be on an island for 5 days. How could you say no to that?!)

So on April 22-26, I was whisked off to an island with my sister, and my good friends Nicole and Enzo. But hold on, let's take each day into some detail. For now, I'll be telling you about our arrival at Bacolod and our first day at Marine Camp! (I'll be dividing these into different posts since there was so much to tell, especially about Marine Camp!)

----------------------------------------

It was an early start for us as my family met up with my friends, Nicole and Enzo at the airport. (We like saying that we have temporarily adopted them into the Guevara family.) You can imagine the giddyness and the complete excitement at the airport. We felt like a CISV delegation off to a new place! This was the first time going to Bacolod for each of us and we really couldn't wait!

Arriving there, we were picked up by my Ninong Rey (ninong is the term we use to call our godfathers here in the Philippines) and Kuya Carlo. Our families have been friends for as long as I can remember! Hooray for family friends! Anyway, we got our taste of real Bacolod chicken inasal and other grilled chicken dishes that really satisfied our hunger.

We settled in at the Sian's house, played Halli Galli for a little while, and then heard mass together. After, we had dinner at a restaurant called Bob's. I had a bowl of Mongolian food all to myself. Spell happy? A R I E L L E. We then went home to get a good night's rest, for we were going to need all our energy for the first day of camp the next day!

Summer so far...

{Camera: Minolta XG-E; Film: Kodak ColorPlus 200}
When has the Philippines turned into a human oven?! The intense heat is practically screaming summer right in my face.  Practically one of the reasons why I've been on quite the blogging hiatus. The weather just wants to make me sleep with the air conditioner on full blast.

So what have I been doing for the summer? Well, it's been quite the same as a normal school year, since I'm still working on Algebra and stuff to catch up. On the liesure side, well, Kayla's finally reading the Harry Potter series, which I promised I'd let her read once she finished Narnia. We've been having a marathon of the films, as she is currently finishing the 5th book. {Man, she is a fast reader. She probably got it from me. Haha!}

Next week, I will be off to marine camp, so I am hoping I will flood your blogger dashboards this week with new posts. I highly apologize for being out of touch, so expect some drawing posts coming up soon! Oh yes, and as promised, here are some shots from the first roll of film we had developed! These are my top 4 shots, and I hope you do enjoy them!

Anyway, so please do keep your heads up for more drawing posts! They'll be coming back soon!

Hey there, lemon square!

Finally, freedom from school stress. Do you know what that means?

It's time to bring Spaceship to Infinity back from the dead! Haha, this blog had been slowly dying for a while, but good news! I am back for good. I have missed blogging dearly. (But if you guys do follow me on twitter, you can see my teensy little updates there!)

So what has been happening in my life really? Aside from school, I finally am a certified scuba diver! My checkout dive was an amazing experience. (I got to dive with sea turtles!) I am beyond excited to go diving with my parents at our Palawan beach trip next week. I also finally got my first roll of film developed! I can't wait to share with you my favorite shots!

Art-wise, I decided to finally create a sketch blog over at Tumblr because I want my art to get more exposure. I'll be posting my little doodles, sketches, and all my artsy shenanigans over there. So for all you on tumblr, please do follow thelittlemerms.tumblr.com!

Also, I have been painting quite a lot. It's just very relaxing, and it's also a good way to practice my illustration. I worked on the painting above last night. The story behind it? Well, since it's summer, it's the perfect time to hang out with your best friends. This painting is actually a second version because the first ended up....horribly. (You don't even want to know how it looked like) The second sketch turned out even better than I expected, and I'm having so much fun with watercolor! I'm just not a big fan of the watercolor paper I used. It was rather too "soft" and absorbed the paint too quickly. But all in all, I am happy with the illustration!

Yeah, well that is all for now. How interesting am I?

Holy macaroni! I've reached 100 followers over here!

Thank you guys so much for continuing to support Spaceship to Infinity! You guys don't know all the mushiness of feelings I get just knowing that there are people out there who do read all this nonsense I post. I just want to give you guys one big hug to show how much I appreciate all this. I most especially want to thank you guys for showing my art some love! All the lovely comments you guys send me just make me turn into one big fluffy marshmallow, not kidding. Thank you again to all you astronauts. I love you all! Here's to the next hundred!

Bonjour!

Oh man, it's been so long since I've actually drawn something. I feel like I've forgotten how to draw! Feel free to laugh at this one though. I obviously don't draw animals very well. Haha! This is based on a rather interesting conversation I just had with my sister about imagining our dog in a beret and a French-themed outfit. Alas, here is the finished product. I personally am not a fan of dressing up dogs in real life...but illustrating them? Love it!

I also feel bad because I haven't been blogging lately. Yet, I'm just 4 followers away from 100! Thank you all for supporting Spaceship to Infinity and bearing with my extreme awkwardness. You all are amazing! *cyber hugs for you all*

These past few weeks have been very very busy for me. Just yesterday, I completed my classroom sessions for scuba diving! I absolutely can't wait for my checkout dive and to get certified. Hopefully, I'll get certified before my beach trip for this summer.

Also, I finally am a proud owner of a Minolta XG-E. Last Sunday, my family and I had an unplanned trip to Hidalgo, Quiapo, which is known for selling cameras: digital and film. We were able to get ourselves a deal with a Minolta, which came with 3 lenses! My sister and I decided to name it Kodie. Can't wait to have our first roll of film developed!

So that's it on my end for now. Again, thank you so much for continuing to read this blog! It really means a lot!

The Truth About Artists

As I was doing my annual art bloghopping spree, I came across this comic which instantly made me scream "Yes!" I could relate to everything it says. Sometimes I find myself wide awake with ideas swimming around in my brain. I also find myself doubting a finished work I've done. Art materials are everything in the world to me. I get too preoccupied with an artwork that sometimes I forget to eat. I have this fear of getting bored, so I try my very best to be productive every second of the day.

How about you guys? Do you have these unusual art-induced habits too? If you do, welcome to the club.

P.S. I know I haven't been posting in a while, but do not fret! I am currently working on a new drawing post for you guys to enjoy!

13 Reasons

I'd like to write about a very dear friend of mine, Isabel. I met her last year, at Camp Dream, and we've been the best of friends ever since! But today, I'd like to make a very special post about this wonderful girl and 13 reasons why she's the best ever!

  1. She understands my language, and by that I mean my fangirl language. We both mostly like the same things which makes our friendship 10x awesomer!
  2. Whenever I'm feeling down, Bel knows how to get me back up on my feet! She's always there for me when I need her the most.
  3. We have the best duo name ever: Isabrielle
  4. We're both the chatterboxes in our barkada. {Barkada is the Filipino term for a close group of friends}
  5. She's like a sister to me.
  6. She's very supportive of me as I am very supportive of her.
  7. Bel's always full of fun and is always game for anything!
  8. She's one of my closest friends from CISV.
  9. She doesn't make me feel left out when talking about school.
  10. She introduced me to Pitch Perfect which eventually has given us an ambition to be acapella singers.
  11. She accepts for who I am.
  12. {This is my favorite part of our friendship} We started talking because of One Direction. Hahaha!
  13. She turns thirteen today!
Happy happy birthday to you, Isabel! Thank you for all those memories we've had together! I'm really glad I've met you. Here's to more memories! Happy 13th! God bless!

Cover: On My Own

Okay, so this is the first time I'm ever posting a cover of mine on this blog......and I'm pretty hesitant about it. Enjoy?  {Also, yes, I still have the Les Mis fever. And my mom has been requesting this from me for a while now, so I thought I might as well share it here.}

ABC

Here's a little sneak peak at what I've been interested in lately: watercolor typography!

I've always loved reading quotes. They're one of the things that inspire me the most with art, especially those of Walt Disney. There's something very motivating about his words.

I was feeling rather paint-y {yes, I do have terms for these moods} yesterday, and since I was having the day off from school, I decided to bring out my watercolors and test out my typography skills. It was fun getting to do something else with those paints. I even tried to paint the alphabet in Helvetica! {Ha ha ha} Definitely one of my new "in things" for this month!

What do you guys think?

The result of playing around with brushes and all. Planning to make this my header, but the loser me can't figure out the correct proportions for it to be fixed. In the mean time, opinions please? Would love to get some feedback!

Don't Blink

Presenting my favorite TV monster ever, the Weeping Angel. Blink is my favorite episode from the series Doctor Who, and boy, these angels are the best things ever. They bring so much excitement and suspense to the show, and I can't wait to see more of them.

I wanted to practice my digital painting, so I chose the Weeping Angel, since it could also be a good practice for shading and light. When I finished, I thought it wasn't that "complete" yet, which made me think "HEY LET'S ADD SOME FLICKERING LIGHTS." Does it add to that creepy feeling? {If you haven't noticed, I'm kind of into making animated gifs now}

Hi Cobo

On My Own

Drawn and colored with Photoshop
This Les Misérables hype has been building up inside me ever since that first teaser trailer came out. I am beyond excited to see the film! Les Mis has been one of my favorite musicals. {well I'm judging by the music and the plot. I am ashamed to say I haven't even seen it live YET *sobs*} Been listening to the OST of the movie all day. *insert all prettyful adjectives describing One Day More here oh my goodness*

Here's a drawing of my dream role from the musical, Ã‰ponine. I remember listening to Lea Salonga's rendition of On My Own when I was younger, and since then, I've wanted to play her.  Can't wait until that moment comes!

Marceline the Vampire Queen

Remember when there were actual decent cartoons on tv? I miss those times when I'd wake up early on Saturday mornings to catch my favorite shows. Among those were Scooby Doo, The Powerpuff Girls, The Wild Thornberrys, Rugrats, and a whole lot more. It sort of sucks that we don't have cartoons that live up to those. {Maybe in the future, I'll get to animate a super-mega-awesome cartoon series! I have so many ideas!}

Although, Adventure Time is one of the few cartoons that I actually enjoy watching nowadays! Here is a drawing of my favorite character from the series, Marceline the Vampire Queen. I like how she likes the color red. I like how she plays the bass. Most of all, I love her singing voice.

This piece is drawn traditionally and lined & colored with Photoshop. I also tried a new watercolor-ish way of coloring my digital works. I love how it turned out! I think I'll be using this more often.
