Let's do this, 2013

Wow. Just wow. In a few hours, we'll {well, here in the Philippines} be saying goodbye to the year 2012, for 2013 is just around the corner! This year was probably one of the shortest, busiest, yet incredibly memorable years ever.

  • Wicked. No words. My family and I still go crazy every time we remember the incredible experience. I still get shivers every time I listen to the soundtrack. Definitely my favorite musical for the entire year.
  • Joined 2 mini camps in a year! Through CISV, I have met the most amazing friends ever! Next summer's mini camp will be my fifth and *sniff* my last. Thank you to all my CISV friends for making this year memorable! You guys are the best!
  • Faaaaavorite learning moment of the year has got to be #Blogworthy. I've learned so much from that experience and I definitely found my blogging style! Thank you, Ate Arriane, Ate Maine, and all my Blogworthy classmates for that awesome experience!
  • Never thought I'd be this close to my sister more than ever. There was this one time when my lolo told us that we weren't sisters. We were best friends. I guess you could say that, since she is my only classmate as of the moment. Thanks Kayla for being the bestestest baby sister ever!
Well that's what I'm extremely grateful for this year! How about you guys? What are your favorite 2012 moments? Happy new year, my fellow astronauts!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Merry Christmas, everyone! {Or in my language, Maligayang Pasko!} I hope you're all having a wonderful time with your families. Stay safe and God bless! Happy holidays!

Tooth

Here's a watercolor painting I just finished of Tooth from Rise of the Guardians! It's definitely great to be watercolor painting again. This time, I tried the wet-on-wet technique. I'm really happy with how the artwork turned out! What do you guys think?

I have the Rise of the Guardians score!

I'm just having a really good Sunday right now because I'm listening to the Rise of the Guardians score! The movie was FANTASTIC {I watched it twice!} and I'm in love with the music. I'll be making some RotG fanart, don't you worry. I'll also be working on a post about the movie! It's a great watch with the family, so do watch while it's still in theatres! :)

Inspired: Poster Design for West Side Story

I was scrolling through Tumblr and came across this lovely poster design for West Side Story by Noni from bonny-notion! I fell in love with it right away! It has that vintage feel, yet it's so appealing. It looks like the perfect book cover. This should be the official poster for the musical. It is law.

Moodboard Mondays: Say WAAAT?!

Hi guys! It's been a while since I posted my last moodboard, but hey! I finally found my moodboard style! So what's "in" for me this week?
  • I'm still suffering from quite the PCD, aka Post Camp Depression. I miss all the friends I've made dearly and all the fun we've had. {I vividly remember sleeping in the lobby of the venue during the last night. Hehe}
  • Saw Wreck It Ralph last week! IT WAS AMAZING. The concept....I can't even express how genius it was. Don't get me started on the Paperman short before it. It was too adorable for my life. {You can probably expect some fanart soon, especially of Vanellope. Such a cutie pie!}
  • Guess who officially started watching Doctor Who!
  • My sister and I are quite obsessed with making friendship bracelets at the moment. We have a whole box of strings and we love experimenting with different patterns.

The Guardian of Dreams

I am finally back! Back from the land of people and adventure. I had a lovely mini-vacation, and I am glad to be back in the blogging world! First off, I would like to say thank you for all your lovely comments on my Gravity Falls artwork. It really means a lot!

Anyway, here's a piece I worked on recently. It's the Sandman {aka Sandy} from the upcoming Dreamworks film, Rise of the Guardians. The Sandman is the Guardian of Dreams. This is traditionally drawn and colored with colored pencils and markers.

Moodboard Mondays: 14

Trying out a different style for my moodboards because I'm rather obsessed with my chalk brush at the moment. I'm also in a rather native-y spirit type of mood. But anyway, let's see what we have in store for this week's moodboard:

  • I recently attended a book binding class with Craft MNL. {Note, I did not make the notebook in the photo!} I've always wanted to make my own notebooks and sketchbooks, so I'm very thankful my mom signed me up for this class! I will be posting photos of the notebooks I made soon!
  • Hi, pretty room. Please be mine.
  • Fell in love with this beautiful bag. Ahh, it seems so artsy, and I could put sketchbooks and pens and all kinds of artsy stuff.
  • "I live to love, I love to live!" CISV MINI CAMP IN 5 DAYS! I'm so excited! This will be my fourth camp with CISV and I love every bit of it!
  • I'm turning 14 tomorrow, and I have to say, 13 was a really fun year. I met so many new friends, experienced so many new things, and learned so much!
  • I finally made a Photoshop brush that's perfect for my liking. Practically in love with it.

Dipper and Mabel

THIS TOOK ME 8 FREAKING HOURS AND I AM SO PROUD OF IT! Okay, enough use of caps lock over there. But yes, I have decided that out of all the digital artworks I've done, this one is my favorite.

The characters in the drawing are Dipper and Mabel Pines, twins from the new Disney cartoon - Gravity Falls. It's by Alex Hirsch, the guy behind Fish Hooks {which I thought was hilarious by the way}. The show is about the twins' summer adventures at Gravity Falls, and the mysteries they encounter about the strange town.

I looooooove the show.  I'm a sucker for mysteries and cartoons, so putting them together is the best thing that could ever happen. Gravity Falls is absolutely hilarious and the characters are just amazing. Dipper is my favorite because he's so adorable, but Mabel....is like my spirit animal. She's very artsy and is kind of a spacehead. {Plus, she has sweaters to die for! The one she's wearing in my drawing is my favorite!}

I decided to start practicing with backgrounds now, so I tried it out with this one because I love the color scheme of the show. I'm so happy with how it turned out! I still need to brush up on my shading skills though...

I would very very very much appreciate it if you guys would comment your feedback on this piece! I really want to know what you all think and what I should be improving on.

Dipper and Mabel Pines & Gravity Falls belong to Alex Hirsch

Song of the Day: Sunshine & City Lights by Greyson Chance

For those of you who don't know, I am a huge huge HUUUUUUUGE Enchancer. In fact, I've been a fan of Greyson's even before he was featured on Ellen! So naturally, I freaked out when it was announced that he would be returning to the Philippines for the third time in a year. {He misses me. Hahaha, kidding!} I got to meet him when he came last November 2011. He was very nice, polite, and extremely down to earth. {He even called me sweetie three times! *fangirl*}

I didn't get to go to his concert last April, so I'm definitely not passing up the opportunity to see Greyson perform live again while he promotes his new EP - Truth Be Told. Here is the first single released from the mini album, Sunshine & City Lights. Enjoy!

CHALLENGED: The Perks of Being a Blogger

I was recently challenged by Jodie of Heart Strings! {This is my first ever blogging challenge, so I'm really excited! Oh, and excuse the title. I just recently watched The Perks of Being a Wallflower and I am currently in a "hi-I'm-Charlie-and-I-write" mood.}

-----------

The Rules:
1. You must draw something to give tips to new bloggers or old ones who would like to hear some more!
2. You can also challenge other blogger friends to do this!
3. It can be made online!
4. You can challenge as many bloggers as you can!

{I'd like to thank Ate Arriane for teaching me what I have on this list. Yihee!}

1. One of the essentials in blogging is having that drive in you. What do you want to share with the world? What message do you want to convey? What do you want to be known for?

2. With that passion in mind, how are you going to change the world using that? This is my favorite aspect of blogging. Blogging allows me to share my message to the world with a simple click.

3. Quality over quantity. {Need I say more?}

4. You don't have to be a fake. This is your blog and your message.

5. Blogging isn't all that serious. You must let your personality shine through!

-----------

I challenge:
{I'm sorry I didn't challenge as much, because it's 11:20 PM here. However, feel free to do this! It's a great way to spread the love for blogging to everyone!}

Moodboard Mondays: Flying Times

I can't believe it's already the second week of October! Time flies SO fast! I always make it a point to be positive and enjoy every bit of learning I get. What's the point of being sad, depressed, and unkind to others.

This month, I just got back to watercolor painting. I haven't been painting in YEARS, and it's so good to return to the hobby. I fell in love with these swatches I found online. My favorite part of watercolor painting is being able to change each shade of color by just simply adding water. Planning to take painting seriously again. I'm also planning to make my own watercolor chart!

Speaking of colors, my favorite colors for October are those up above. Orange, yellow, brown, and other fall related colors. Thus, getting started on that rucksack. I have this obsession with rucksacks and backpacks. I fell in love with this completely. The style of the bag is just perfect, and not to mention the colors! Oh October, how much inspiration you bring to me.

The World's Only Consulting Detective

Excuse me while I hide in a cave of guilt. I have been a Sherlockian for quite a while now, yet this is my first piece of Sherlock fan art ever. The photo on the left is an enhanced one, because the I seemed to have made Sherlock's skin too dark {right photo is the original}........ I used Sharpies and other sorts of markers to try to get the coloring right.

I'm really happy with the piece, though! Did I capture Benedict Cumberbatch's cheekbones right? Loving the eerie Sherlock Holmes lettering I did over there. Hehehehe!

Going to make more of these pieces {John Watson soon! Hooray!} and maybe a series? I really don't know. I'm just fumbling with these pens in my hand and drawing pictures that enter my head.

Moodboard Mondays: Spaceship to Infinity Redefined

One of the projects we did for last Saturday's session of Blogworthy {Which was also the last. Huhu, going to miss everyone!} was to create a mood board that would define our blog. I was very excited for  this activity because I'm the type of person who likes grouping things according to color and appearance. Lo and behold, here is Spaceship to Infinity redefined.

  • I totally love Spaceship to Infinity's new logo! It's just so artsy and I love how it fits my personality. {I also love how it gives emphasis on the A}
  • Ariel. My favorite Disney princess, who was also animated by my favorite Disney animator, Glen Keane. I cannot emphasize how important she is in my life. Not just because we have the same name, but I see a lot of her personality in myself. We're willing to do what it takes to achieve what we want in life. Mermaids unite!
  • I like collecting photos of spaces, desks, and all sorts of home-y things. {Hence my "Future Home" and "Spaces" boards on Pinterest. Follow me!} I looooove the "working-at-home" feel of the desk and goodness, the lamp itself. It looks like you're in your little Neverland.
  • I'm pretty much obsessed with pretty illustrated posters with uplifting messages on them. Thus, the image of a hot air balloon with all other thingamajigs on it. Aw yeah.
  • Yes, more Disney. Peter Pan is one of my absolute favorites among the older Disney films. Plus, it was also one of my biggest inspirations to try out theatre after seeing it live last 2007. Ah, memories.
  • Oh my goodness, I can't even stress how much this last photo speaks the truth! {Plus I love the pretty typography. Yipee!}
  • Finally, my favorite color scheme of the week. You can never get enough of color schemes. Never.

Ah, moodboards, how they can clear up your mind. Making this was actually very relaxing. In fact, I'm thinking of making "Moodboard Mondays" a weekly thing here on Spaceship to Infinity! Definitely looking forward to next week's moodboard!

Insta Art

Some drawings I've worked on and got too lazy forgot to scan. These are all taken and edited through Instagram, using an iPod Touch. {Hence the rather grainy quality.} It's really nice to see how I've been improving in my art each day.

#Blogworthy: An Artsy Kid's Point of View

"Kuya, dito ba yung co.lab?" I remember asking the guard after finding the "big, orange warehouse-type building," as Ate Arriane described it. Yup, I was attending Blogworthy {With my mom as my classmate. Hi mom!}, a blogging workshop by Arriane Serafico {who is one of the coolest people I've met} of wanderrgirl.com! It's aimed to help creative individuals to find their personal brand and build a successful & unique blog from there!

I first heard of Blogworthy through my good friend, Nina, who joined the first batch of students last summer. I was really interested with all the activities they did, and wished that they would do a second run. You cannot imagine how excited I was when my mom told me there was going to be a second workshop and how giddy I was when I signed up!

Anyway, back to topic. Our workshop was held at co.lab xchange, and can I just say how MUCH I want to live there? It was so pretty and colorful and full of other pretty things. Hooray for orange walls! Hooray for pretty chairs and tables! HOORAY FOR CO.LAB!

The entire class had around 11 people, all awaiting to learn something new. Did I mention I was the youngest in the class? (Hehe young blogger hehe)

Hello, workspace! Why yes,  I do decorate my laptop with stickers.
We were all greeted by lovely loot pails with lots of goodies! {Yay!} A big big big thank you to Celebrations Party Central, Hey Kessy, Pinkerton Ice Cream {their cake batter ice cream is a must-try!}, BC Fragrance, Hodge Podge, Designs of Artisan, and Punchdrunk Panda! *happy dance*

{click to enlarge}
For the day, Ate Arriane talked to us about personal branding and the more left-brainer side of blogging. She taught us how to discover who we are and how to make the most out of what we aspire to be. We were given some worksheets to look at what we're good at. {Most of my answers revolved around art. No surprise there! Haha!} Ate Arriane also taught us how to find our blogging voice and how to use it to stand out from all the other bloggers in the internet world. Like what our keychain from Hodge Podge says, "Your blog is your message to the world. Make it a good one." I learned SO much!

Next week's class is going to be pretty exciting. We're going to have a whole morning on Photoshop {woohoo!} and a mini-photoshoot. I wonder what props I'm going to bring that help represent myself. I better look at my artsy kit. So hyped!

P.S. I promise to be my chatty self next week. We were soooooooooooo quiet. Going to make the most out of that last day!

Tote-ables: Positivity

After QUITE a while, I decided to bring this back. Yes, taking Tote-ables seriously now! I've been really busy with schoolwork, that I haven't had any time to work on my business. Three cheers for it has returned! {I'm exceptionally proud of the new timeline cover I made for it. Let the rainbow appreciation begin!}

The bags in the Positivity collection have "feel good messages" on them. You can check them out here! Tote-ables now features messenger bags! Yipee!

What other exciting things are in store for Tote-ables? I'm now accepting custom designs for Php 300! You can message me via Facebook or tweet me for inquiries.

Really excited for how this is going to turn out! Hope to hear from you all soon!

Evening Dresses

One of my favorite art blogs to visit is Draw This Dress. It features drawings of "fashion from old people," as their title says. Vera's way of drawing is one of the influences on my developing style (especially with my digital art). I love how she takes fashion illustration into something different, something very pleasing to the eye.

When I was younger, I remember wanting to become a fashion designer. Obviously, I've moved on from that dream of mine, but I still do enjoy drawing clothes and sketching out models. Recently, I've stumbled upon this image of two lovely evening dresses from the 1910s and said to myself, "Hey, these would be fun to draw!"

----------
Here is the final outcome of my drawing of the dresses! It took me around 2 hours (minus all my cookie breaks) to get the lines, shading, and coloring right! The lines and shading may be a bit weird, but I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. Maybe I never let go of that fashion designer dream after all!

P.S. And a HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to One Direction's Niall Horan! Yay!

Unnamed Original Characters

Characters I made up the other day. I guess they're twins from the 60s. The girl is a nerd and the boy is the jock. {you can obviously tell with the varsity jacket} They get along pretty well. Still don't have any ideas for names. Suggestions?

Facing My Giant

Reposting this from my homeschool blog because I think it's a significant story I should share with you all. {Warning: expect a long wordy post. Please don't get bored! This means a lot to me!}

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last July, TMAs peer group activity for the month was a showing of the movie Facing the GiantsFacing the Giants is the story of Shiloh football coach, Grant Taylor, who is currently struggling with his football team and his personal life As the story progresses, Grant learns how to accept these struggles and put his complete faith in God. He shares this new philosophy with his football team, and they slowly make it to the Nationals against the much favored team, the Giants.

One of Grant's players is David Childers, who plays as their substitute kicker. At first, David is hesitant to join the football team because he considered himself more of a soccer player rather than a football player. After his father encouraged him to try out, he actually makes the team. However, he is still scared that he won't be able to make the team score during matches because he thinks he can't kick every far. His father, who is unable to walk, tells him not to mope around waiting for something to happen. He tells David that he should always put his complete faith in God whenever we are afraid, and something great will happen.

I couldn't help but feel incredibly inspired after watching the movie. It was a reminder that God has something great in store for me and that everything happening in my life right now, including all the struggles, is a part of his amazing plan. It also reminded me that if I put my complete trust in God, great things will happen.

Recently, I faced one of the biggest giants I have ever faced so far: an audition. I'm not talking about the kind of audition I experienced back in 2008 for Repertory Philippines' A Christmas Carol. I'm talking about a real audition, one that most theatre artists go through now, with all the readings and dance auditions. Last July 28 and 29, I experienced all of that.

When creativity strikes!
