21 Suggestions for Success

I found this on Tumblr yesterday, and I really wanted to share it with you guys!  These suggestions are just oh-so-lovely that I needed this on my blog. Hope you all get inspired by this! :-)

Christmas Wishlisting

I can't believe it's going to be Christmas in five days!  Christmas is about celebrating and family, but most importantly, it is about the coming of Jesus Christ.  We musn't forget that.

Yes, Christmas is about giving and sharing life's blessings, but I'm sure everyone has their little Christmas written down somewhere.  I'd like to share with you what I hope will be under my Christmas tree.  (I know this is pretty late, but whatever! Haha)

Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack - The movie has the most splendid music ever and I could listen to it every single day!

The Art of Tangled -  I really really really want this book!  This book is full of notes, concept art and everything you'd want to know about the art of Tangled.  Ah, heaven!

Batman NA NA NAAA

Look at what I made today!  Hahaha, I have been quite into superheroes, Batman most especially.  I decided to make this adorable mask out of paper for future photo ops!  What do you guys think? :)

I'm Alive!

Yes, yes.  I am back from a long period of not blogging.  How have you guys been?

School and other activities have been making my schedule very hectic so I haven't really had the time to blog.

So what have I been up to these past few days?

  • Greyson Chance came to Manila last November 19!  I attended his press conference and watched his concert at Eastwood.  Want to find out what happened? Check out my Tumblr post here
  • I have been rather interested in the Dreamworks film, How to Train Your Dragon.  It has fantastic animation and has the most splendid soundtrack ever!  With all respect to Toy Story 3 and Pixar,  I personally think HTTYD should have won the Oscar.
  • I have been quite interested in watercolor and have purchased a set of Prang watercolors at National Bookstore a few days ago!  I cannot wait to start painting with them!
  • Milk tea = my current obsession!  I have finally [don't judge me! Haha] tried milk tea and it is heaven.  I'm loving Serenitea's Hokkaido milk tea and Gong Cha's [Gong Cha is located at the ground floor of the Megamall Atrium, for those of you who want to check it out] Winter Melon tea.
It is finally December, so I promise to bring this blog back to life! See ya later!

The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan

My rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Summary: If Jason Grace was sent to Camp Half-Blood, where was Percy Jackson sent?  The Son of Neptune follows Percy's journey at Camp Jupiter, where he meets two new friends, Hazel and Frank.  The three then go on a quest that will bring the Greek and Roman demigods together and give us hints on the Prophecy of Seven.

What I Like:  It's the second book in the Heroes of Olympus series!  I loved The Lost Hero and I also loved this one!  I enjoyed all the moments where Percy was slowly regaining his memory, where Hazel would have flashbacks, and when Frank's grandmother would explain what's in store for him.  I literally couldn't put the book down!  It was also nice to see how it is in the Roman camp for demigods.  Oh!  I also loved Leo's teensy part towards the end.  You can't handle Leo Valdez's swag.

What I don't Like:  I truly missed all the Percy/Annabeth moments.  I also miss the original trio: Percy, Annabeth, and Grover.  I especially don't like the fact that I have to wait a whole year for The Mark of Athena.  Huhuhu. *cries*

My comments:  The book was such a cliffhanger!  October 2012, please come faster!  Oh, and people have been asking me which side I'm on.  Greek or Roman?  Greek all the way, people!  You're talking to a daughter of Poseidon here.  Haha, just kidding!

Nico di Angelo

Nico di Angelo is one of my favorite characters in the Percy Jackson series.  There is just a mysterious feel about him, so here's a quick sketch of the son of Hades!

Oh how I love Photography!

I only remembered to upload these now.  Took these last month in Greenbelt 5.  Oh how I love photography!

Changes

You guys have probably noticed that I've changed my blog url!  'arielleguevara' sounded too mainstream to me.  I wanted a funky and more creative url!  Behold, my blog is now called: Spaceship to Infinity!

Where did "Spaceship to Infinity" come from?  I really don't know.  It was just a random thought that popped into my head!  Wouldn't it be amazing if you could just hop into a spaceship and travel to the end of the world? (aka infinity!)

I'd love it if you guys would comment your thoughts on my new blog name!  Thanks a bunch!

Thirteen!

Guess who officially turned thirteen today? Meeee!

I have finally entered the stage of my life where I can call myself a 'teenager'.  I can now watch R-13 movies or PG-13 movies without a chaperone, though I have to be careful.

What did I do to celebrate?  Well not much, really.  I'm not a really big fan of birthday parties, though my family and I went to some thrift stores in Cubao.  It was awesome!  I can't wait to come back and probably buy stuff.

Funny, I received three necklaces as gifts, one with a heart pendant, one with a girl, and one with a microphone.  Cool, right?

I should better go back to doing what I have to do, so goodbye for now!

Homeschooling

Sometimes, it just saddens me that people think homeschooled kids are just caged up inside the house, and do nothing else but study.  They are wrong.  We, homeschoolers, aren't children who are cut off from the world.  We get to learn anywhere, anytime, not just inside the four walls of a classroom.

To prove that, here's a clip from Dolphin Tale that shows how homeschoolers are really sociable!

So don't just think we're trapped inside our homes.  Homeschoolers are more than that!

Dolphin Tale

[downloaded from seewinter.com]
I highly recommend you guys to watch this movie!  It's a great watch for the family and is very inspiring!

Dolphin Tale is based on the true story of Winter, a dolphin who lost her tail due to being entrapped in a crab trap in the Indian River in Fort Pierce, Florida.  She is discovered by a boy named Sawyer Nelson and is rescued by the Clearwater Marine Hospital.  Sawyer tries to convince everyone to help save Winter by creating a prosthetic tail to replace the dolphin's missing one.  It is truly a tale of faith and courage.

Do you sometimes feel broken?  Do you sometimes feel that you're not worth anything?  Have you lost hope?  This movie is for you.  Winter lost something that she extremely needed, but did she give up?  She never lost hope.  If a little dolphin can do it, so can you!

I loved this movie because it shows that we kids can do something.  We just have to have the guts and creativity!  It also had a homeschooled character in it!  This is definitely one of those movies that actually show homeschooling in a positive light.  So for all you homeschoolers, you're definitely going to love this movie.

Here's to Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs has passed away.  Kudos to the brilliant genius of the age.  May you rest in peace.

You can actually send Apple your thoughts, memories & condolences at rememberingsteve@apple.com.  Here is what I sent:

"Thank you, Steve Jobs, for helping me make the world my classroom.  Thanks to you, I have better realized my love for art and my wish to become an animator when I grow up.

You have been a great inspiration to us, young people.  Rest in peace."

Loony Lovegood

Just a quick random sketch of who I'm dressing up as for Halloween! c:

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Dear Mom,

Happy birthday!  Even though you've been fed up about my stubborness a hundred times, you're still the best mom for me.  I hope God gives you more years to come!  I love you!

October is finally here!

Here are the things I am very excited about for this month:
  • I'm turning thirteen on the 23rd! Woah!
  • I am veeeeery excited for CISV Mini-Camp!  This will my be my second year attending.  Can't wait!
  • I'm also pretty hyped up for Halloween!  I'll be dressing up as Luna Lovegood.  I'll be making my own tie, Spectre Specs & wand for my costume.
Even though all these things are quite fun, I'll be finishing up my second quarter so I'll be really busy as well.  Please be good, October!

Free Positive Thoughts, anyone?

Spotted these at the school where I take my Filipino class!  Aren't they awesome?  I chose the "Complain less. Breathe more."

I'm now really inspired to make something like this!  I should make a "Free Compliments" one or something.  Then I could put it here for you guys to print & use for free! YAY!  I shall work on it soon.

P.S. I apologize for the very low quality photos.  Used my phone to take them since I didn't bring a camera. [Huhuhu, I miss the Nikon]

Film film film

Hello everybody.  Are any of you here, interested in film photography?  I very much am, and I was just wondering, what would be a good camera to start with?  For those who own film cameras, I would gladly appreciate if you would comment your suggestions & tips.  Thanks a bunch! (:

Forever and Always

Meet my best friend, Sam.  We've been friends since like, forever.  I love her very very much.

We do the craziest things together.  She's the straw to my berry and the apple to my pie.  She's my Lilo and I'm her Stitch.  She's my Justin and I'm her Jaden.

We think crazily alike, too!  Sam and I think the exact same things at the exact same time.  It's like our minds are linked together!  You know what they say, "Great minds think alike."

Homeschool Diaries: 9.10.2011

Having small field trips with other homeschoolers is such an enjoyable thing to do!

Last September 10, we went to Luneta park & Light and Sound Museum with fellow TMA homeschoolers and had a Philippine history day.

Walking around Luneta was quite fun, although I do have a question.  Why is it the vendors there sell American food?  Why can't they sell Filipino food since it is Luneta park, which is full of Philippine history?

The Light and Sound museum was really nice and I loved the part where they introduced the characters from Jose Rizal's Noli Me Tangere.

Stay tuned for more Homeschool Diaries!

The Manila International Bookfair!

Oh how I love going to the Manila International Bookfair every year!  I always love splurging on great buys!

This year, I bought Wicked by Gregory Maguire & the Wicked piano scorebook!  Wicked is probably my favorite Broadway musical next to Annie, and I dream of playing Elphaba one day.

I also bought a drawing book about anatomy, so I can better understand the human figure and draw better pictures of people with better proportions!

Let us not forget Sherlock Holmes!  I really like reading about mystery, crime & detectives, so I bought Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.  I wonder how long it will take me to read both volumes...

In the Tahanan Books booth, I found hilarious post-its with funny grammar errors by Filipinos.  I chose 'For your FYI'.  It's so cute!  The illustrations are by Elbert Or, who actually dropped by the booth & made On The Spot drawings.  He was amazing!  I was so inspired after that!

I really can't wait for next year's bookfair!

I met Maria Aragon!

Last September 4, I was in Megamall, heading to a Vietnamese restaurant, while waiting for the rain, outside, to stop.  I noticed people gathering around the center.  (This always happens in Megamall, by the way.) "That's just probably some celebrity I don't know," I told myself.  I decided to check who it was.

HOLY SHMOW, I saw a huge sign saying "Maria Aragon", and there she was, signing autographs!  I practically had to force my mom to come with me downstairs so I could line up, have her autograph and take a picture with her.  I ran through the crowd, (even though my shoes were killing me) bought a cd and lined up.

She was adorable!  Her album is great!  I love the studio version of Born This Way.

Still starstruck.

ARTastic!

Hello everyone!  I am happy to say that I have finally created a deviantART account!  I will be uploading all my artworks there.  Click here to visit!

The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart

My rating: ★★★★★

Summary:  When a peculiar ad appears in the newspaper, dozens of children enroll to take a series of myterious, brain-twisting tests.  But in the end, only four very special children succeed.  Their challenge is to go on a very secret mission that only the most intelligent and resourceful children can complete.  With their newfound friendship, will they be able to pass the most important test of all?

What I Like:
The story was very interesting and I didn't get bored at all!  It made me think a lot!  It was extremely mind-bending!

What I Don't Like:
I loved every bit of the book, even the illustrations!  Well, Mr. Curtain kind of creeped me out a bit. Haha!

My Comments:
They should definitely make this into an animated movie!  I want to voice Constance, my favorite character!

New Hair!

Hi guys. What do you think of my new hair?  Haha.  I just decided to get bangs for fun.  I look like a Japanese.

a'postrophe

I bought these two necklaces at a store called a'postrophe in Glorietta 4. (Near the foodcourt & beside Cook's Exchange)

I looooove the store.  The items they sell are very trendy.  They have cute accessories, wallets, bags and even notebooks!  Plus, the store smells nice too!

Make sure you come and visit a'postrophe!

Wit beyond measure, is a man's greatest treasure!

Have any of you guys received your Pottermore Welcome emails?  I didn't know I received mine until I just logged on Pottermore for fun, and it actually let me start exploring!  I was thrilled!

Overall, the experience was great, though it needed sound effects.  It was so quiet that I needed to play my own music to make the experience more enjoyable.

The part where we visit Diagon Alley was so much fun!  I got to buy all my school supplies and books.  Most importantly, I was able to buy my own wand!  Oh the thrill of being chosen by the wand!

I was also really excited for my sorting at Hogwarts!  After a series of questions, the Sorting Hat placed me in good old Ravenclaw!  (Just checked the Great Hall, Ravenclaw has the most students. Hahaha!)

I finished The Sorcerer's Stone yesterday, so there's not much to do except brew potions, challenge people to Wizard's Duels and wait for the Chamber of Secrets.  Please come faster!

Add me on Pottermore!

One Less Lonely Girl

Did this for my friend, Nina.  I did this pretty late since I had an art block for the past week.  But then I got a super awesome idea for her doodle and went straight to work.  I'm pleased with the design. Heck yeah.  (Starting to try out some texture brushes on Photoshop!)

Always.

Albus Dumbledore: After all this time, Severus?
Severus Snape: Always.

Okay, so I am currently on a Severus/Lily phase right now.  Their story is just so sad!  Ugh.  Well if Severus didn't care so much about his reputation, he and Lily would be perfect.  Boo. /thumbs down

Please do not steal. Thank you! c:

Lol, I drew this the other day.  Please excuse my coloring skillz.  I am still practicing.  Severus just looks...awkward.  Though I am quite pleased with how Lily and James turned out.

While drawing this, Breakeven by The Script came up on my iTunes shuffle.  That song was just perfect for the Severus's situation!  Ugh, my heart.  It shattered.

Congratulations, you are magical!

Hello, fellow Potterheads!  So last June 24, JK Rowling lauched Pottemore, a brand new online reading experience based on the Harry Potter books.

Credits to Pottermore.com
Registration would be officially open on October, but the site announced that we should visit Pottermore on July 31st to find out how we can register early!

I practically woke up early just to check Pottermore!  Besides that, it was also JK Rowling's and Harry Potter's birthday!  Hooray to our Queen and to the Boy Who Lived!

Anyway, I waited for a few hours until they announced on the Pottermore twitter account that they would be launching "The Magical Quill" challenge.  The Magical Quill is basically the quill that writes the name of each magical child in a book once they are born.

From July 31 to August 6, Pottermore will be posting clues from the Harry Potter books.  Solve the clue, and you will be taken to a website where the Magical Quill will be revealed.  When you find the Magical Quill, you will be taken back to the Pottermore homepage where you can register early!

I quickly brought out my Sorcerer's Stone book, since the clue on July 31 was from the first book.  The clue was released at a little after than 8 AM in UK time, so that would be around 4 PM here in the Philippines.

When the clue was FINALLY revealed, I quickly grabbed my book and started scanning the chapter where Hagrid first brought Harry to Diagon Alley because the clue was:

How many owls are featured on the sign of the Eyelops Owl Emporium? Multiply this number by 49.

I hurriedly typed my answer at the end of quill.pottermore.com and hit Enter.  I was then led to Sony USA where I had to 'catch' the Magical Quill, and lucky enough, I caught it!  My hands couldn't stop shaking after I was taken back to the Pottermore homepage with a link that said "Register now"!

So I registerd for Pottermore and chose the username SkyScale183.  JK Rowling called me magical!  Yay!

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! (That was me screaming!)

I received my confirmation email the day after and I couldn't stop freaking out because I will be one of the million who get to 'shape the experience' before the site opens to all in October!

Oh how I can't until I get my Welcome email!  I will check every single day.  Can't wait to 'shape the experience'!

If you guys already registered for Pottermore, comment your usernames! See ya on Pottermore!

Until The End

Harry Potter: "You'll stay with me?"
James Potter: "Until the end."

Last week, I watched the epic finale of the Harry Potter series: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.  I have to admit it is definitely in my top 3 Harry Potter films.  It was packed with so much action and it was definitely a great farewell to a wonderful series.

Part 2 was so much better than Deathly Hallows Part 1.  After clinging to the edge of my seat and watching the film 2 times, Part 1 was so boring compared to the last HP film.  The Battle of Hogwarts was so much fun to watch and I was practically clinging to the edge of my seat as I watched every single duel.

I teared up a little during Snape's death when I first watched.  But when I watched a second time, I cried even harder.  I've always liked Snape because no matter how he hated James, he cared for Harry because of his love for Lily. He was definitely the Slytherin that died like a Gryffindor.

Romione!  The kiss was extraordinary!  Although I did want Harry to be there watching them.  I wanted his little interruption like the one in the books.

I did think they overdid Bellatrix's death.  They also messed up the ending when Harry broke the Elder Wand.  In the books, Harry repairs his own wand and puts the Elder wand where it's supposed to be, so if he dies a natural death, the power still remains with him.

The era has come to an end, but Harry Potter is definitely now a legend

Varekai by Cirque du Soleil

Last July 7, my family and I watched Varekai by Cirque Du Soleil.  It was amazing.  Varekai means "wherever" in Romany language.  It's definitely a show you wouldn't want to miss!

The show was completely mind-blowing!  I was practically clinging to the edge of my seat every time the performers did their AMAZING stunts (and I mean AMAZING) with perfect timing.

After this show, I learned that there truly is perfection.  I simply applaud Cirque Du Soleil for bringing this new world of wonder to the Philippines!  I'm really blessed to have been able to watch this spectacular performance!

Quickster Update!

It's been a pretty long time since I've been drawing digitally.  I mean, all I've been focusing on traditional art for the past few months, so I decided to make myself a new wallpaper for my laptop!  The girl in the drawing is supposed to be me, in a Hogwarts uniform.  It took me an hour just to get the hair right!
